Born in 1983, in Ghent, Joris Van de Moortel lives and works in Antwerp (Belgium).
Having graduated from the Künstelerhaus Bethanien in Berlin (Germany) in 2013, and from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Ghent in 2009, Van de Moortel is amongst the most well-known artists of the contemporary Belgian art scene.
Joris received noteworthy solo exhibitions, in particular Cachivage Bugui at BOZAR (Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels, Belgium) in 2018, and Pink Noises at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta in 2016 (United States).
Joris Van de Moortel also participated in several group exhibitions, such as Danser Brut at LaM (Villeneuve d’Ascq, France) in 2018; Passion – Fan behaviour and art, a traveling exhibition shown in 2015 and 2016 at the Ludwig Museum (Budapest, Hungary) and Des choses en moins, des choses en plus at the Palais de Tokyo (Paris, France) in 2014.
In October 2019, he will be invited to participate in the event La Nuit Blanche in Paris.
Joris Van de Moortel’s works are held by important collections, such as the Vehbi Koç Foundation (Istanbul, Turkey); the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art (Paris, France/New York, USA); the collection of the Centraal Museum (Utrecht, Netherlands); and the Ghisla Art Collection (Locarno, Switzerland).
